Accommodations - Cuernavaca y Playa del Carmen- Host Families

What is the family like?

The host family may be a married couple or a single woman with or without children. The most important thing is that there is a family atmosphere in the home and that you get to know the lifestyle of the country in which you are studying. Some families have other students, native or international, but only Spanish is spoken in the home. You will find it easy to make friends with the other students in the home.

Host Family Conditions

You can choose between a single or double room that you will share with another person. If you are going to register with another person, we can place you in the same family. You can either have a single room each or stay together in a double room.

In Cuernavaca you can choose from the following two options:
1. Breakfast only
2. Full board (3 meals): breakfast, lunch and dinner.

In Playa del Carmen you can choose from the following two options:
1. Breakfast only
2. Half board (2 meals): breakfast, and lunch or dinner.

Meals in a typical Mexican Family are eaten at the following times:
Breakfast: 07:30 - 08:00h.
Lunch: 13:00 - 14:00 h. Main meal of the day. Typical homemade meals.
Dinner: 19:00 - 20:00 h. Light meal.

At the time of enrollment you can state your preferences such as a smoking/non-smoking family, a family with/without children, without animals ( in the case of allergies), any special dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian, allergy to certain foods)….Please include these details when you send the registration form.

The reservation for the host family works on a weekly basis, however extra days can be arranged. For all courses, the reservation with the family will begin one day before your course starts (Sunday) and will end the day after your course finishes (Saturday). If you are going to arrive in Spain a few days before the course starts or will be leaving a few days later, we can also arrange extra nights in the host family.

Sheets and Laundry:

The family will provide sheets and towels for you in Cuernavaca. You will need to bring your own towels to Playa del Carmen. All you have to bring are personal objects. Laundry service is not included in the price of the accommodation. There are several Laundromats in the neighborhood where you can go to wash your clothes.

You can receive calls at the family’s home but cannot make calls. There are many public telephones where you can make telephone calls. There are 2 types of public telephones in Mexico: those that accept coins and those that accept calling cards. There is one of each type of public telephone for student use in the school. You can make local calls or international collect calls. Telephone cards may be purchased in stores where you see a LADATEL sign. These locations include newspaper stands, grocery stores, pharmacies, the bus station, etc.

We also recommend that you look for companies in your own country that have “reverse charge” telephone cards so that you can talk with the telephone operator in your own country and save money.

Excursions or trips:

If you have lunch included in your meal plan and will be going away for the day an excursion, the host family will prepare a packed lunch. You should inform the host family of this one-day in advance. If you are going to travel during your stay with the host family, you will not be refunded for any meals or nights missed.
